Volunteer Training Throughout the Year

If you can commit 3-4 hours each week, spend them in the library and change a life two ways: (1) tutor adults seeking a high school equivalency diploma or (2) educate and counsel those 50+ about Medicare and related services.

Get help earning a high school equivalency diploma

HSE Connect! links adults who are ready to work towards their high school equivalency diplomas with the information, resources, and personal support they need to meet that goal. The program provides: (1) information sessions that explain the three paths to a diploma and the ways to prepare for it, (2) guidance on where to start, and (3) tutoring for those who can commit a few hours each week to independent study.

As a tutor you are supported with resources and an instructional plan. You meet with students at library locations throughout the county. New tutor training takes place several times during the year. Bi-lingual tutors are especially needed in several locations.

Our tutors make a difference. If you can dedicate 2-3 hours per week, please email your contact information to HSE@wlsmail.org.

Learn more about Medicare

Westchester Seniors Out Speaking (WSOS) delivers free services that help adults 60 plus achieve a better understanding of Medicare health plans, prescription drug coverage, and other benefits available to seniors.

Volunteer counselors receive monthly training from subject specialists; then they take that knowledge into the community through either presentations – done solo or as a team – at community centers throughout the county and walk-on counseling services offered at public libraries. Visit the program’s main page for more information on the program and its resources.

Our members are comfortable using computers, have excellent interpersonal skills, and are able to provide 4-12 hours per month of consistent service. In 2016, we could especially use more volunteers who are willing to do monthly outreach to community groups in central and southern Westchester. Want to find out more?Contact Phyllis Rosen at prosen@wlsmail.org. Bi-lingual skills are always welcome.
